CHAGALL EXHIBITION.  IN MESTRE
AND THE UNKNOWN VENICE

Saturday, January 20, 2024

PROGRAM

Departure in the morning from Verona Porta Nuova for Venice by Regional Veloce train escorted by our guide. Upon arrival, after a short break, we will meet the guide who will lead us to get to know hidden corners of the lagoon city, often ignored or forgotten, with special attention to the Dorsoduro district. We will visit the famous Basilica of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, a treasure trove of well-known treasures of the lagoon Renaissance such as the altarpiece called "Pesaro" by Titian, the Altarpiece of the Assumption in the main altar and the Madonna del Giambellino altarpiece in the nearby Sacristy. We will not fail to see in the same neighborhood the beautiful church of San Sebastiano, which is the summa of canvases by our fellow citizen Paolo Veronese with Stories from the Old and New Testaments.

Free lunch in one of the area's baccari. In the afternoon we will take the train back to Mestre, where we will visit, with an in-house guide, the exhibition dedicated to Chagall at the Candiani Cultural Center in Piazza Ferretto, where some of the Russian painter's major works are on display, dialoguing with works by his contemporaries, also on display. It will also be an opportunity to take a look at the unknown corners of the Venetian mainland town, before catching the train back to Verona for the end of the excursion in the evening.
