THE BURCHIELLO AND THE VENETIAN VILLAS OF THE BRENTA

PROGRAM

The burcio (or burchio), was a typical large-cargo, flat-bottomed river boat built with hardwood frames and softwood planking and deck; we had a great ability to dock anywhere by resting on the shore and are also recalled by Dante in the Divine Comedy "how sometimes burchi stand on shore / that part are in water and part on land..."(Inferno, Canto XVII, vv 21-22)

A day-long mini-cruise where you will see some 50 magnificent Venetian villas richly decorated with frescoes, the summer residences of the Venetian nobility. The boat excursion is very interesting from a historical, cultural, artistic, environmental and aesthetic point of view. As the cruise progresses through some special and evocative places, one appreciates the high technological value of the hydraulic works built in order to order to make this canal navigable, enabling the development of civilization over the years. Along the way, Il Burchiello stops at three of the most beautiful and important villas of the Brenta Riviera: Villa Pisani, Villa Widmann and Villa Foscari La Malcontenta. And at lunchtime, the Burchiello stops for guests to enjoy delicious fish dishes (optional). The mini-cruise ends at St. Mark's Square. After a short coffee break by private boat you reach the railway station for the return by fast regional train to Verona
