BRESCIA THE LIONESS OF ITALY
PROGRAM
Morning departure from Verona, escorted by our escort, for BRESCIA, the city of the Risorgimento resistance led by Enrico Toti. Our neighboring but unknown, endowed with numerous Roman remains, also rich in the Middle Ages especially religious (Convent of Santa Giulia), the Old Cathedral the Broletto, the Castle and Renaissance such as the Palazzo della Loggia. On our arrival to welcome us will be our local guide, who will lead us to the discovery of its monuments. We will start of course from the Piazza del Duomo, entering the Cathedral and looking at the Rotonda (the Old Cathedral) and the Broletto with the Loggia delle Grida and with the Civic Tower of the People. Then we will go to the world-famous Piazza della Loggia, dominated by the eponymous Venetian-style palace, given the long history shared by the lagoon city.
finally we'll reach the modern piazza vittoria, the virtual center of the city, of rationalist appearance of the 1930s. from there we'll pick up the corsetto, or corso zanardelli to complete the morning visit.Free lunch with time at leisure.In the afternoon, still with our local guide, we will visit the famous monastery of santa giulia, a very interesting and elaborate museum complex that combines Roman antiquity, the churches of s. giulia di san salvatore and santa maria in solaro, where artifacts from pre-existing museums from ancient and more recent eras have converged.
We will not fail to take a look at the remains of the Roman Theater and the Capitoline Temple, still endowed with its hexastyle pronaos , the entrance steps and part of the pediment. If there is time we will pop in to see the Church of St. Christ, also called the Sistine Chapel of Brescia given the presence of frescoes extending to the entire ceiling from the Renaissance period. After the visit a break for a good coffee or ice cream in the central Piazza Arnaldo before we reach our coach, and begin our approach march to Verona for the conclusion. End services at Porta Nuova and Porta Vescovo where we will arrive in the early evening.
