THE WORLD'S LARGEST AIRPORT
By 2050, Dubai's second largest airport could handle up to 250 million passengers a year (8 times the current number of Rome Fiumicino airport). DXB plans a major expansion of 1.5 to 2.5 billion over the next five to seven years, with the goal of reaching 120 million passengers a year within 15 years. When it reaches maximum capacity, Dubai's second hub, Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), will become the largest in the world, with forecasts of more than 250 million passengers by 2050.
CHILD FREE ZONES
Turkish airline Corendon Airlines will introduce "Adults Only" zones on some flights between Amsterdam and Curaçao, offering peace of mind to passengers over the age of 16. Corendon is the first European airline to offer this service, following the example of some international airlines such as AirAsia. The area will be separated from the rest of the plane by walls and curtains, with dedicated seating and an additional charge of €45 each way to access it. This initiative aims to provide a quieter travel experience and reduce concerns for parents with children on board.
CYBER ATTACK IN THE UNITED KINGDOM AIR SYSTEM
U.K. air traffic control systems were disrupted causing delays and flight cancellations, but the government confirmed that a cyberattack was not the cause. NATS warned that the effects will be felt for days. Several airlines, including easyJet, British Airways, and Ryanair, announced further cancellations. The outage left many flights and crews off the ground, causing inconvenience for passengers. The cause was a "technical glitch" by NATS, which had to manually process flight plans, slowing down operations. Users reported prolonged delays and uncertainty on flights.
STRIKES ACROSS EUROPE
Europe has witnessed a series of strikes involving various transportation sectors, following employee demands for higher wages and better working conditions. These strikes have caused significant disruption to travelers throughout the region. In France, unions have been fighting an increase in the retirement age from 62 to 64, with protests and strikes that have lasted since January and have significantly affected travel. In the United Kingdom, a strike by airline security workers was averted through the acceptance of a wage offer. Strikes have the potential to further disrupt travel throughout Europe, with several dates and sectors affected.
